The final season of The Walking Dead features 24 episodes, making it the largest season ever. The episodes are divided into three segments and the first eight episodes wrapped up on October 10. The Walking Dead season 11 episode 9 will air in February 2022.
AMC announced that The Walking Dead will return on February 20, 2022. This puts the show back on the same schedule it was on before the pandemic, with the first half of the season in the fall and the second half in February, only this time around the final eight episodes will follow at some point in the late summer or early fall 2022.
The Walking Dead season 11 will return in February 2022
There are several stories playing out in The Walking Dead season 11, and that’s what makes watching it a lot of fun.
Eugene, Yumiko, Princess and Ezekiel have been welcomed into life at the Commonwealth, but all is not what it seems. The idyllic community lives like there’s nothing going on outside of the walls, and the group is having trouble navigating the complexities of the policies and procedures that govern the place. They need to get back home to help their friends. Is this the community that can help?
Maggie led a group to get supplies at Meridian, but in order to do that they have to take down the Reapers. Negan isn’t entirely comfortable with the way she’s running the show but after time passes and they find themselves stuck together they find a way to work together, even if they don’t like each other.
Daryl, after getting separated from the group, discovers that Leah is one of the Reapers. Their leader, Pope, is a ruthless villain who rules as commanded by God, but he’s one peach short of a cobbler. Daryl manages to convince the Reapers that he’s on his own, trying to protect Maggie’s group, and in the mid-season finale he reveals that he’s one of them. Leah kills Pope to give Daryl time to escape, but she also tells her people that he’s the one who killed Pope.
Lastly, there’s the fight to survive in Alexandria. Food has been scarce and the walls around the community are failing. In the mid-season finale, a storm arrives that brings the wall down, sending a flood of walkers – and water – into the safe house where the group has sought shelter.
With the fate of Alexandria up in the air, the survivors will be faced with a difficult choice when the show returns in February. Do they try to make the best of it, or do they need to find a new home?
It might be the final season, but The Walking Dead shows no signs of slowing down! The Walking Dead returns Feb. 20, 2022 on AMC.
