Mondays this fall on FOX have been quite eventful for 9-1-1 fans with the fifth season of FOX’s top drama once again delivering one heart-pounding episode after another. While fans have been loving every minute of season 5 thus far, Monday nights haven’t quite been the same without the show’s spinoff, 9-1-1: Lone Star which has been MIA thus far this fall.
Instead of new episodes of 9-1-1: Lone Star airing after 9-1-1 each week, FOX has given the 9 p.m. timeslot on Monday nights to its newest original drama The Big Leap which currently airs behind new episodes of 9-1-1.
While the move makes sense for FOX — after all, what better way to try to help launch a new show than by having it lead out of your most-watched scripted series?! — it’s one that has left many 9-1-1: Lone Stars puzzled and concerned about the show’s future.
Did 911 Lone Star get canceled?
Although 9-1-1: Lone Star did not manage to secure a place on FOX’s fall calendar, we can confirm the show has not been canceled and will be returning for a third season at FOX.

Filming on season 3 is currently underway and we don’t anticipate 9-1-1: Lone Star going anywhere soon as the series remains one of FOX’s top programs and has built up quite a passionate audience.
When does 911 Lone Star come back?
9-1-1: Lone Star will return for its third season in early 2022 as part of FOX’s midseason schedule and, if history repeats itself, we could see the new season as early as January 2022.
While FOX has yet to confirm the season 3 premiere date for 9-1-1: Lone Star, the show’s first two seasons both debuted in late January with season 1 kicking off on Jan. 19. 2020 and season 2 beginning on Jan. 18, 2021. If FOX sticks with this release strategy and debuts the new season on the third Monday of the month, 9-1-1: Lone Star should premiere Monday, Jan. 17, 2022.
Of course, this is purely speculative at the moment, but we can’t imagine FOX will delay the show’s return or look to change up its rollout strategy — especially considering the success the show has enjoyed in its first two seasons.
