It was a night of new episodes on Friday, Nov. 5. It’s time to look at how they performed in the live TV ratings and the chances of renewals.
FOX had its usual night of WWE, which did match the top demo for the night at 0.5. The audience was a little down compared to normal, pulling in 1.98 million viewers. This will certainly have helped some of the scripted shows.
A lot of the scripted shows aw upward ticks in the numbers. The shows that were down in the live TV ratings are probably not the shows we need to worry too much about.
SWAT up, Nancy Drew down in the live TV ratings
CBS had a good night, starting with SWAT being up 8% in the demo. It matched the highest demo of the night with Shark Tank and the WWE. The audience was steady. While that was the lowest of the CBS shows, it was still one of the strongest of the night. The move to Fridays has certainly been good for the show and we’ll likely see a renewal.
Magnum PI was down 7% in the demo but it was up 6% in the audience and the second-best of the night. Blue Bloods was 13% down in the demo, but was steady in the audience and pulled in the best of the night. There’s no doubt the two shows will be renewed.
NBC had a good night, too. Home Sweet Home was up 25% in the demo and steady in the audience while Dateline was up 6% in the demo and up 5% in the audience. There’s definitely nothing to worry about when it comes to Dateline. We’ll be keeping an eye on Home Sweet Home, but it could be safe for Fridays.
ABC’s Shark Tank was down 12% but still pulled in the joint-best demo of the night. It was steady in the audience, suggesting another renewal. 20/20 was down 38% in the demo and 27% in the audience, but that’s probably not a concern. The series has a tendency to be up and down in the live TV ratings, so we’ll probably see it safe for another season.
It’s The CW we’re keeping an eye on. There’s no doubt that Penn & Teller: Fool Us will be renewed. It was up 11% in the demo and 6% in the audience, and it is a staple when it comes to rerunning content. Nancy Drew had a concerning 100% drop in the demo and 9% drop in the audience. It could survive by being on Fridays, but it might be renewed for a fourth and final season due to the live TV ratings.
