A lot of TV shows saw upward ticks off the back of Halloween scheduling in the live Sunday TV ratings. Here’s a look at how everything performed.
It shouldn’t be surprising to hear that Sunday Night Football won the night. That’s always the case. There’s a reason the broadcast networks want to air live sports. They are a strong performer meaning more money through advertisements.
FOX had the Sunday afternoon game, which should have meant all of Animation Domination was up. Most of them were. The only one that wasn’t was Family Guy, but that was only down 3% in the demo. I expect all four shows to be renewed.
CBS and The CW had an hour each with reruns. We won’t pay too much attention to the ratings, but it is worth noting that NCIS: Hawaii‘s pilot rerun performed better than a new episode of The Rookie in the audience.
The Rookie mixed, Hidden Temple up in the live TV ratings
The CW had a new episode of Legends of the Hidden Temple. After a drop in the ratings on Halloween night, we saw a 100% uptick in the demo and 36% uptick in the audience. The numbers are back to where they were before Halloween, and I think The CW is relatively happy for Sunday night programming. I expect a renewal.
CBS had new episodes of 60 Minutes, The Equalizer, and NCIS: LA. 60 Minutes is nothing to worry about. It’s a staple for Sundays. The Equalizer was down 15% in the demo and 1% in the audience, but I’m not concerned. It still had the highest demo of all live-action scripted shows, and the audience was the best of all scripted programming including animation.
NCIS: LA has been falling recently in the live TV ratings, but it was up 6% in the demo and 2% in the audience. Is this enough to get a renewal? Maybe. It still remains a strong contender for Sundays against other networks.
ABC starts off with a night of unscripted programming, mostly game shows. The ratings were mixed for all, but I’m not sure there’s a problem. I expect to see Celebrity Wheel of Fortune and America’s Funniest Home Videos renewed. They’re just so cheap to create compared to scripted.
Supermarket Sweep is the one I’m concerned about. it fell another 14% in the demo and 9% in the audience. These numbers are starting to get low, even for a Sunday.
I’m also concerned about The Rookie. The demo fell another 6%. The audience remained steady from the Halloween episode, but ABC would have been hoping for an upward tick. The demo matched the rerun of NCIS: Hawaii and the audience was lower. This is concerning.
