The first two episodes of Dexter: New Blood are now streaming on Showtime — spoilers ahead if you have not watched them. Binge them before reading on.
Dexter’s son Harrison surprised his dad by showing up in his home. Needless to say, Harrison is probably the last person from Dexter’s past he expected to see. But he’s not upset about it. At first, he doesn’t want Harrison close, afraid that he will ruin his son or get him killed, as he has other loved ones.
Eventually, Dexter realizes that this is likely the only second chance he is going to get. After dealing with Matt Caldwell, Dexter decides it’s better to be there for his son so Harrison doesn’t turn out a monsters. But could Harrison already be a monster? Is he lying about Hannah?
Is Hannah really dead in Dexter: New Blood?
If watching too much TV, particularly crime dramas and mystery thrillers, has taught me anything, it is to never trust anyone. And all Dexter fans know that the series has always enjoyed throwing a few surprises our way.
That said, I’m not sure I trust Harrison. He’s very smart and independent for his age, which makes sense because, for starters, Dexter Morgan is highly intelligent, so we know where he got the brains from. And if Harrison really did go into the foster care system, I’m sure he had to grow up faster than he wanted to and learned a few things along the way. Simply put, Harrison is clever and mature for his age — but that doesn’t mean he’s not hiding something.
Just like Dexter, Harrison was born in blood. It’s possible that Harrison didn’t only inherit Dexter’s intelligence, but the Dark Passenger, too. And if that’s the case, maybe Harrison left Hannah to go find his dad. Or maybe Harrison even killed Hannah himself (real wild theory, but I’m not dismissing anything yet).
