Looking back at some of the best TV deaths that happened in 2021.
Every year, there are TV shows that will kill off characters. Some of these are villains that we wait to see get their just desserts, while others are fan-favorite characters that we’d prefer not to lose. We’re looking back at 2021 at the best TV deaths.
Now “best” is relative. We aren’t always happy that these TV deaths happen. It’s more about the deaths that meant the most to us as fans.
They may have had a huge moment on the other characters on the series. Or they may have just reminded us of the realities of war. In some cases, they were TV deaths that we’d been waiting season after season to happen.
Of course, there are those that were devastating. Some deaths hit us hard. We didn’t expect them to happen, and we’re not all that happy that they have happened. They may have only been recent, so we don’t even get to see what the impact is on all the characters around. They’re still good deaths because they may have been fitting for the character or we have a world of potential for other storylines and characters.
I will admit that this list was extremely hard to put together. There are some deaths that rocked me to the core that I couldn’t include because others were much bigger.
Let’s get into the best 11 TV deaths that happened throughout 2021. We’re only looking at scripted content, of course. This will cover broadcast and streaming shows.

11. Full Metal from SEAL Team
When the death happened: SEAL Team Season 4, Episode 16. The episode aired on Wednesday, May 26, 2021.
Was the death expected? This death was sort of expected. In the previous episode, Full Metal had been injured badly, but it looked like Bravo Team had brought him back and he would be on the mend when they returned from their mission.
When they did get back, they learned the heartbreaking truth. Full Metal hadn’t survived. Bravo Team would mourn the loss hard.
Why it was one of the best TV deaths of 2021: There was a lot happening in the world of SEAL Team during Season 4. The start of the season saw us concerned about an extremely important member of the team: Cerberus. Would the show kill off the dog on the team?
Fortunately, Cerberus survived and was able to retire. However, that didn’t mean we were without a character death. It happened at the end of the season instead.
The important thing about this death was the reminder that anything can happen. We were hit with the realities of war, something that a lot of TV shows try to avoid because they don’t want to write out a lot of characters. SEAL Team has always tried to remain true to reality, and it did it this time with heartbreaking consequences.
