Merry Christmas to all who are celebrating! If you are here wondering if there will be a new episode of Saturday Night Live tonight, December 25, we have the answer (but you may not like it).
As you may remember, not too long ago, the NBC sketch comedy series took a break for a couple of weeks due to Thanksgiving. Just like us all, the cast and crew enjoy spending time with friends and family, so they are doing just that again for Christmas. So when are new episodes coming back for Saturday Night Live season 47? Here’s everything you need to know.
Is Saturday Night Live new tonight? (December 25)
Yes and no. Yes, there is an episode airing tonight at 11:30 p.m. ET on NBC, but the SNL episode you’ll find playing there is not a new one. We are not sure who is hosting tonight’s episode, but we believe it’ll be a combination of Christmas and holiday-themed sketches and jokes instead of a host-specific episode.
When is Saturday Night Live back with new episodes?
We don’t have the answer to this, either. But it will be several more weeks. For the holiday season and winter break, the sketch comedy series takes off for at least 5-6 weeks. As soon as we know when it’s back, we’ll update you?
However, we don’t know if SNL will be back after the break due to the ongoing pandemic. Last week’s episode (Paul Rudd’s episode) was nearly canceled altogether. Last minute, they decided on no live audience and limited cast and crew present, they even didn’t allow Charlie XCX on set. That said, if things continue to get worse before they get any better, we may not have a live show of Saturday Night Live for a long while. The question is, will they switch to filming from home like they did earlier this year?
