Demon Slayer season 2 episode 5 recap

We open up this fifth episode with Sound Hashira Uzui Tengen finally locating his first wife, Hinatsuru. Though, what was supposed to be somewhat of a happy moment quickly turned out to be rather dire as Hinatsuru was revealed to also be captured by the Upper-Rank demon Daki, bound up in an empty room and left for dead.

Upon Uzui freeing her, Hinatsuru explained how Daki was able to catch on to her schemes, her signature evil sash being the reason why she knew where Hinatsu was up to when she departed from Kyogoku House. The sash was ordered to take Hinatsuru out if she was plotting anything suspicious and with Hinatsuru going silent for days on end, it can be assumed that at some point she slipped up and became a hostage of Daki.

Hinatsuru, now regaining her strength thanks to her loving husband, urges Uzui to go fight the rampaging Daki before apologizing for not being of any use. Uzui consoles her before heading off to complete the important mission at hand. In doing so, he finds a spot in which he hears battling underground. He takes out his weapons and makes a sound loud enough to get the attention of Tanjiro and Daki who are battling to the death. Unfortunately, it’s shown that the battle currently favors Daki.

Not only is our beloved demon slayer Tanjiro physically no match for Daki as his sword was revealed to be battered within seconds of the fight, but he also was no match for her with his elemental breathing techniques as he is incompatible with Water Breathing and is unable to handle the extreme heat of Flame Breathing. Even still, Tanjiro sets out to strike while he’s still standing. With the memories of his fallen loved ones and with his undying resolve to not become someone who his loved ones grieve over, Tanjiro charges towards Daki. The results to be seen in the next episode.

Finally, in the latter half of the episode, we see Inosuke finally rid himself of his “Inoko” persona so he can go all out at the Ogimoto House. With no more restraints, he was able to find the location of the evil sash he was chasing in episodes prior and wound up in its stomach/food locker. There, he sees tons of people, including Zenitsu, who were captured, left to be feasted on by Daki later. The evil sash is, of course, upset at his arrival, charging at him to kill him, but our boar head-wearing demon slayer was able to counter her every move—initially, at least.

With people still being alive in the sash, Inosuke couldn’t go as buck wild as he planned to fight this demon, but just when he was about to be in a terrible bind, Makio, Suma, Zenitsu, and Uzui finally joined the battle to help him out.

Five demon slayers fighting one demon underground along with one demon slayer fighting one demon (with the strength of five) above ground. Who will arise victoriously? We’ll have to tune in to find out.

Don’t forget to tune in to Demon Slayer season 2 episode 6 streaming Sunday, Jan. 9 at approximately 10:45 a.m. EST/7:45 a.m. PST on Crunchyroll, Funimation, and Hulu.
