Why isn’t Sonic 2 on Disney+?

Sonic 2 is playing in theaters and it is the No. 1 movie in the world with already $141 million, as Box Office Mojo reports. Families can’t wait to see the movie again, but movie theater prices can get pretty expensive! Then we have the fans who are waiting for a streaming release. So whether you are wanting to watch Sonic the Hedgehog 2 again or are patiently waiting for the streaming release and hoping that’s Disney+, here’s why that won’t be the case.

At the moment, Sonic 2 is only playing in theaters. To see the movie, you’ll need to visit your local movie theaters. The big-screen experience is definitely the best way to enjoy the epic adventure that is Sonic 2. However, I do understand not everyone is ready to go to the movie theater. Not to mention, go twice.

Why isn’t Sonic 2 on Disney+?

Many fans of the energetic blue hedgehog were hoping that Sonic 2 would stream on Disney+, and you can’t really blame them! Sonic 2 is a family movie, and who is the No. 1 streaming platform for family content? That’s right, Disney+.

Disney+ is the streaming home to Marvel, Star Wars, and a wide collection of Disney classics and favorites! Unfortunately, the Sonic universe is a Paramount Pictures property, which means that Disney does not have the rights to it.

Instead of waiting for the movie on Disney+, Sonic 2 will stream on on Paramount+. The first movie is already streaming there, and a Knuckles spin-off series is in the works and set to premiere on Paramount+. Do you have a Paramount+ account? If you don’t, there’s no better time than now to sign up, especially if you are a fan of Sonic as there is plenty of content on the way.
