American Idol has been a staple in many households for the last 20 years. The competition series has seen lots of changes during that time.
The first season was on Fox and saw Paula Abdul, Randy Jackson, and Simon Cowell at the judge’s table. And now the show has switched networks and is on ABC with judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie.
From Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, to Jennifer Hudson. The series has discovered amazing talent. And that’s why it’s so great that it’s still going on after all these years. With season 20 this year, are we through all the rounds or is there more to come?
Is American Idol on tonight?
There is no new episode of American Idol tonight. Last week the season 20 finale aired and a new winner was crowned. Noah Thompson took home the title of the nation’s next American Idol! So that means we reached the end of yet another season.
But that doesn’t mean it’s the end of the ABC show. The singing competition has already been renewed for a season 21 by the network. We don’t have a confirmed premiere date yet. But we can expect to see the next round of aspiring singers on our screens sometime in the winter between February and March 2023.
Whether our favorite judges – Perry, Bryan, and Richie – will be coming back is still a mystery as well. But that doesn’t mean the trio won’t be on the judge’s panel anymore. The series is typically renewed in May, and the judges sign their contracts in the summer. So there should be news on that front coming soon! And of course American Idol wouldn’t be the same without host Ryan Seacrest. Negotiations for his contract are also discussed in the warmer months. Hopefully all four make a return for American Idol season 21!
