Adam Sandler has always been a ‘good’ actor long before Uncut Gems, but that movie proved that he’s a great actor. And, once again in his latest film Hustle, he shows some great range of emotions.
In the film, Sandler plays Stanley Sugerman, a jaded basketball scout who wants to become a coach. But, this doesn’t work out for him for long. Stanley has a lot of love for the sport but because of an accident in the past, he couldn’t pursue the career himself anymore.
Now, as a scout, he has to look for fresh talent. He comes across Spanish player Bo Cruz (NBA star Juancho Hernangomez), playing basketball on the street, hustling opponents for cash. And, here we go, he found the talent he was looking for.
A lot of Stanley’s enthusiasm is ruined by the corporate nature of the sport and his not so likable boss. Hustle is more about basketball as a business rather than the sport itself. Moreover, it focuses on the drama more than a lot of other movies in the sports genre do. Bo had troubles in his past that cause him more trouble later.
Hustle is a predictable yet enjoyable film about the business of sports
Hustle is overall very predictable. It’s the average rags-to-riches storyline. But, this movie still has quality filmmaking that makes it immersive. There are montages with some great editing throughout the movie, there’s even one right at the start of the film. Moreover, the movie maintains it’s aesthetic very well throughout. The camerawork and the lighting is really good, too.
The story never feels outlandish. The characters and the conversations they have feel real. There’s also a lot of good humor throughout the movie that feels natural. Hustle focuses a lot on the families of both Stanley and Bo and the drama of it all, which is rare. There’s a lot of NBA players in this which makes it even better.
The majority of viewers will likely love this movie. It has a lot of good things about it. Sandler’s acting, likeable characters, and the aesthetic carries this movie. There’s one time skip at the end that might bother a few people, but overall Hustle is a good movie. It’s a fictional story that feels real.

At the end of the day, this movie is definitely worth a watch.The majority will love it for sure. Just don’t expect anything too special. It’s a simple but well made movie. The runtime is just below two hours so it’s a quick watch, too. Hustle will release on June 8 ,2022 on Netflix.
