Paranormal Activity 7 movie rating: Why is it rated R?

Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin is here just in time for some Halloween scares! But is it too scary for most audiences? Should you watch the movie is you scare easy? The movie is rated R, but why? Here’s what we know (and what we recommend) about Paranormal Activity 7.

The Paranormal Activity franchise is one of my favorite horror movie franchises! They are some of the only movies that have made me jump out of my seat and scream in front of fellow moviegoers in theaters, no shame!

For me, it’s all part of the fun. I enjoy horror movies. But what if you are only used to PG-13 thrills or have a teenager at home who loves horror movies, but you’d rather not have them watch sexual content and gore? Is that what Paranormal Activity 7 is rated R for? Let’s find out.

Why is Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin rated R?

To best provide you with information, we’ve gone to Rotten Tomatoes and Common Sense Media.

The movie is rated R for language throughout, violence, and bloody images. Okay, so no sexual content or gore. But if it’s R for “violence” and also for “bloody images,” it may be a little intense.

Common Sense Media does not have Next of Kin in their files, but it does have the other movies in the franchise and they all recommend the movie only to audiences 16-years-old and up, and those have been rated R, too.

Essentially, I believe that, if you were able to handle the other PA movies, you’ll be fine watching Next of Kin. But if you felt uncomfortable with the others, you may not enjoy this one.

Paranormal Activity 7 streams on Paramount+ on Oct. 29, 2021. The movie will not be released in theaters, which is really too bad because horror movies are best enjoyed on the big screen. Will you be streaming the movie?
