Picture it, it’s the early 2000’s and you just got home from school. You turn on Disney Channel and The Proud Family is on TV. Life is good and you’re ignoring your homework. Fast-forward to 2021 and no doubt you wouldn’t believe a reboot of The Proud Family is going to exist.
However, Disney made sure to let us know on Disney+ Day that The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder is coming in 2022. It’s exciting news for those of us who grew up with The Proud Family and want to share it with the next generation. The series is still surprisingly relevant all these years later so it’s no surprise Disney wants to dive back into that world.
No doubt hearing the announcement made you want to rewatch The Proud Family. Most of us watched the show as kids or young adults so it’s no surprise we’d forget some things and want to rewatch it. It’s honestly hard to believe we used to sit in front of the TV and watch rather than having it pulled up on a streaming service.

Yes, the Proud Family is currently streaming on Disney Plus. For those who don’t know, the series premiered back in 2001 and ran for two seasons. During that time, we watched as Penny Proud tried to figure out life while also dealing with a slightly chaotic family. It wasn’t easy but somehow, Penny managed to make everything seem just a little bit cooler.
In addition to having two seasons under its belt, the Prouds also had a Disney Channel Original Movie. You can also stream that on Disney Plus, too. Along with that, the show actually had a crossover episode with Lilo and Stitch. Seems unlikely but the early 2000s were a weird time.
Looking back at the show almost 20 years later, the series isn’t without its faults but overall, the show was a major milestone for Black cartoons. It’s even rare now to see a Black family as the focus of a cartoon series. Disney wasn’t ahead of its time but rather, finally did some much-needed catching up when it came to representation.
Overall though, The Proud Family is no doubt still beloved to this day. While the reboot is still a few months ago, it would be nice to go back and rewatch the original series. Personally, I’m most excited to go back and remember how bonkers Oscar Proud was. No matter what though, it’s nice to know that The Proud Family is just a few clicks away on Disney Plus now.
