We’re in for another round of music family drama on FOX but instead of exploring the world of rap, hip-hop, and R&B like on Empire, the network plans on diving deep into another mix of genres–country, folk, and likely bluegrass–with Monarch.
The series is focused on country royalty, the Romans. Dottie and Albie, also known as the Queen and King of Country are two forces of nature on their own but add in their loved ones and you’ve got a first family that knows how to bring the house down with their music.
The Romans are considered to be a family of good, honest people who came about their dynasty through hard work and sheer talent. That’s the image they’ve worked tirelessly to protect but, behind closed doors, they are anything but kind to one another and are often sniping about legacy.
When a secret from the past threatens everything they’ve built, the Romans go on the offensive, but it’s not only the past that’s catching up with them. It’s also the present as the industry changes and Nicky Roman vies for her mother’s crown.

Monarch release date
Monarch premieres Sunday, Jan. 20, 2022 at 10 p.m. ET on FOX. The show’s second episode will air on Tuesday, Feb. 1 at 9 p.m. ET. Subsequent episodes will also air on Tuesdays at the same time.
