Seven-time Grammy Award winning musical group Coldplay is a favorite for many, many people. The British rock band formed back in 1996 and have released nine studio albums and counting. The group can be heard on radio stations around the world, and is, at this point, a household name.
Coldplay lead singer Chris Martin is even a celebrity in his own right, having very highly-publicized relationships throughout the years. Remember when he had a “conscious uncoupling” from Gwyneth Paltrow? That term went viral and is still talked about today.
Coldplay to stop making music in 2025, Chris Martin says
With how popular Coldplay is and how important the group is to pop culture, one would imagine they’d keep making music until they physically could not anymore. Well, as reported by ITV today, that unfortunately is not the case. In fact, the band even has an end date in sight.
While a guest on BBC Radio 2 for Jo Whiley’s Christmas special today, Chris Martin spoke about the future of Coldplay. He revealed they have plans to stop putting out albums in a few years, but the band isn’t breaking up. Instead, they’ll continue touring with the collections of songs they already have.
Martin shared:
“Well I know I can tell you: our last proper record will come out in 2025 and after that I think we will only tour. Maybe we’ll do some collaborative things but the Coldplay catalogue, as it were, finishes then.”
Of course, this is bad news for diehard fans of the band, but at least they’ll still be rocking out on stage together. Martin did not reveal why exactly they won’t be making more music, but we’ll be sure to update you if the reason ever comes out.
For Martin’s personal life nowadays, he’s in a relationship with actress Dakota Johnson. The two got together in 2017 and have been spotted out together on many occasions since then, though they are very private about their romance.
It’ll be an end of an era when Coldplay officially stops making music, but at least we have a few years until then.
