At the very start of our Insecure series finale titled, “Everything Gonna Be, Okay?!”, we had many questions concerning Issa Dee’s happiness as it seemed as if she was doomed for good.
Issa, who was still reeling in the aftermath of Lawrence and Nathan’s altercation, seemed to still be fairly optimistic about her relationship with Nathan, wanting to talk about what transpired in an effort to have this moment be something both she and Nathan can laugh about in the future. However, compared to Issa’s optimism Nathan was immensely stressed, not just about the fight but about the relationship’s future. In the end, he decides to part ways with Issa, leaving her, once again, alone.
With Insecure, we know that trouble doesn’t last always, but with Issa’s heartbreak that sent her into a brief depression, does she conclude that she isn’t meant for love, or does someone else come along to remind her that she is, in fact, deserving of a happy ending?
Does Issa end up with Lawrence?
Thankfully, we received the latter of the two choices as Issa Dee does end up happily in a relationship with Lawrence. However, the road here was far from smooth.
Shortly after her breakup from Nathan, Issa attempts to jump back into the dating pool and, for a moment, has some success in doing so. Nevertheless, no man was able to make her as content as Nathan did, leaving her in a melancholic state for a rather extended period of time.
Still coping with her current situation as well as her best friend’s, Molly, sudden loss, Issa reaches out to Lawrence for his birthday, believing that life is too short to not clean up misunderstandings with your loved ones. Her belief prompts her to ask Lawrence out to dinner to which Lawrence declines as, much to Issa’s disappointment, he has a new woman by his side.
Because of this unexpected setback, Issa moves on to another person, though, she knows this is not what her heart truly desires; explaining why, only a few months later, she seemingly decides to be single for a while to prioritize her organization, The Blocc. Doing so proved to be worthwhile in the long run as The Blocc was able to properly secure its own office space, letting us know that Issa finally found her footing career-wise. And just when we thought things couldn’t get any better, Lawrence arrives.
Lawrence, who seems to have broken it off with his birthday fling, meets Issa at her new office to congratulate her on her success which makes Issa immensely sentimental. As she takes her trip down memory lane, she concludes that she has to trust everything will work out in the end even if things didn’t make too much sense in the present. With this newfound perspective, Issa tells Lawrence that she is willing to try at their relationship once again, open to any possibility.
Flash forward a few months later, the two are still going strong, letting us know that, as Issa believed, everything turned out to be okay.
