For five amazing years, fans of the HBO Max original series Insecure have been comforted by Issa Dee’s hilarious antics and relatable relationship troubles. However, what makes this series truly remarkable for fans is the beautiful representation of Black love, Black success, and, most importantly, Black comedy.
It was announced earlier this year that season 5 of Insecure would serve as the final installment, but with the show still riding its popularity high as well as with the rave reviews the series received in the most recent season, could fans expect an Insecure season 6 in the future?
Is there going to be a season 6 of Insecure?
Unfortunately, we will, in fact, have to bid a farewell to this amazing Issa Rae-produced series as Insecure is not set to return for a season 6.
The series not returning certainly doesn’t come as a surprise as the season 5 finale seemed to tie up every and any loose end that it had to. From characters getting married and going on to have children to some of them celebrating life’s blessings married or not, most, if not, all of our season 1 favorites received a pretty happy ending. Explaining why, though definitely desired, an Insecure season 6 would not be warranted.
In addition to the on-screen finality of Insecure, there were also some off-screen farewells done by the cast and crew. See bittersweet photos of the cast and crew of Insecure bidding their final goodbyes to the show courtesy of Issa Rae’s Twitter, here.
Rae may be closing the door on one chapter of her life, but, rumor has it, she has so much more in store for us!
What’s next for Issa Rae?
In addition to Sweet Life: Los Angeles, an HBO reality series executively produced by the Insecure star, according to Deadline, Issa Rae also has a series called Him or Her in the works. The series is set to be about the dating life of a bisexual Black man, a lifestyle that Rae believes isn’t always portrayed favorably on-screen, hence why she took on the task of correcting this major injustice.
Besides the general logline, not much else is known about the series including when it will release, but that’s alright with fans because, while they are waiting for Him or Her, they are signing up for a chance to direct alongside Rae for an upcoming HBO project,
What the feature-length film will be about is currently unknown, but if it has Issa Rae’s hands on it, we know that it’s going to be a work of art.
We may have to sadly reel in the knowledge that Insecure season 6 will only be but a hopeful wish. However, with all these upcoming projects on the way as well as with every season of Insecure streaming right now on HBO Max, we think that both ourselves and fans across the world will be just fine.
