Grey’s Anatomy is ABC’s longest-running drama currently on the air. Will it continue to air new episodes in the 2022–2023 season?
The longer TV shows go on, the more we wonder if they’re going to come to an end. They could still be performing well in the live ratings, but that means nothing. Just look at Supernatural, one of The CW’s best-performing shows live. It ended after 15 seasons because the leads were ready to end it.
It always comes down to when the lead characters want to leave shows. The benefit of Grey’s Anatomy is that it is an ensemble cast, but we all know that it wouldn’t really be the show that it is without Ellen Pompeo.
Pompeo has been very vocal throughout the last few years about looking to end the series. There were even reports recently about her asking ABC to bring the show to an end. And yet, here we are with the latest renewal news.
Is Grey’s Anatomy Season 19 happening?
TVLine brought fans the good news about the future. Grey’s Anatomy Season 19 is officially happening.
It’s even going to have Pompeo’s Meredith Grey. The actress has inked another deal with ABC to continue her role as the lead of the series. Showrunner Krista Vernoff has also inked a new deal to make sure she’s sticking around for another season.
Will this be the last? It looks like the show will get to at least Season 20 at this point. Does anyone really want to see the series end without that round number?
When does Season 19 of Grey’s Anatomy start?
We don’t have an exact premiere date, but we can take a guess. Grey’s Anatomy Season 19 is sure to be a part of the fall 2022 lineup. There is no reason for ABC to move it out of the fall lineup.
We’ll likely see it remain as part of the TGIT lineup. While Station 19 hasn’t yet been renewed, it likely will be and will kick off TGIT with Grey’s following.
