One Piece voice actress reveals when the anime will end

With over 1000 episodes under its belt, One Piece has officially cemented itself as one of the longest-running anime series of all time.

This shounen anime series’ long run and esteem are certainly deserved as every single episode is packed with nothing but action, heartfelt moments, and, of course, hilarious banter between our band of treasure-seeking pirates.

Even still, all good things come to an end and, in knowing this tried and true saying as well as in knowing that once our protagonist Monkey D. Luffy finally finds the one piece the show will conclude, fans are beginning to wonder whether or not their time spent fondly watching One Piece will cease much soon rather than later.

Fortunately, it looks like their One Piece luck has yet to run out.

According to Anime Senpai, Luffy’s voice actress Mayumi Tanaka has given word on when One Piece will finish airing, and thankfully, she confirms the end won’t arrive in any soon-coming year. In an interview, Tanaka revealed:

I expect the anime to end in 7-8 years. I don’t know the ending of the story either, so I want to keep on living until the final episode of the series. If I’m going to die on the way, I’m going to ask someone who knows the story ending, saying, “Tell me what happens at the end. I’m gonna die now”.

Though there is still a long road ahead, like many, Tanaka knows that this long-running anime’s end is nigh, and with being the voice actress for Luffy for over 20 years, she, more than anyone else, understands the importance of giving this anime series a proper send-off that will do both the cast and the fans justice. Hence why she went to One Piece mangaka Eiichiro Oda directly to ask what the anime’s ending is, just in case she doesn’t live to see the final episode. In the same interview, Tanaka stated:

By the way, regarding the One Piece treasure “One Piece” that will be revealed at the end, I expected it to be “friends” or “bonds” or something conceptual like that. However, Oda said to me, “It’s not like that. There is a one piece treasure” I’m looking forward to the end of what it is like.

Not only will fans not have to worry about One Piece ending any time soon but they will also not have to worry about the ends not justifying the means, which is certainly good news all around.

Of course, fans are going to have to wait another 7 years to find out what this 1000-episode journey amounts to, however, we know that this doesn’t pose as a frustrating aspect for them as One Piece has always been about the journey, never the destination.

Stream every episode of One Piece today on Funimation and Crunchyroll.
