Euphoria season 2 has been packed with classic hits but the songs that have been sending viewers running to Google this season are primarily by Labrinth.
The show’s composer, who won an Emmy for the season 1 finale song “All for Us,” has been the emotional backbone of Euphoria through its score and unreleased songs that have left us clamoring for their release.
One example is “Understand Me,” the end credit song for episode 2 “Out of Touch.” It, like Labrinth’s latest unreleased song to make an appearance on the show, fit the vibe of the episode and the series as a whole which fluctuates between bravado and vulnerability.
Episode 4’s unreleased track, however, was less about swagger and confidence and more about fragility. It was a fitting inclusion considering it played during a spiritual scene with Rue.
The Labrinth song in Euphoria season 2, episode 4
Labrinth made his on-screen debut in “You Who Cannot See, Think of Those Who Can” as a singer leading praise in church. The song he’s singing is called “I’m Tired” which contextually speaks to Rue’s inner thoughts.
As the scene unfolds, the audience becomes party to her grief over the loss of her father. It’s a key part of her characterization that’s not the sole reason for her drug use but is an element to her emotional distress and inability to cope.
As Labrinth sings, Rue clings to him and her father as she apologizes for the person she’s become. She doesn’t consider herself to be a good person and though her father tries to reassure her, “goodness” isn’t something she sees in herself. It’s a heartbreaking scene that’s likely to lead to even more pain for the audience in episode 5.
New episodes of Euphoria premiere Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on HBO and HBO Max. The second season has a total of eight episodes. Stay tuned to Hidden Remote for more news and coverage on the show!
