Why Avengers: Endgame is the best MCU movie ever

Everyone loved Avengers: Endgame, but it’s not just any other superhero flick. It’s actually the best film in the MCU, and here’s why.

Caught between time traveling, purple aliens, and a healthy dollop of nostalgia, Avengers: Endgame has proved itself to be the best MCU film ever made, as the heroes really are in the endgame now. To truly back this claim, it will require watching the entire three-hour film and analyzing it from start to finish. The film has a sense of grandeur that most other Marvel films try to replicate but fail at it almost every time.

The story picks up where Infinity War left off. Half of all life has been wiped out by the mad Titan Thanos, leaving only a handful of Avengers to salvage the remnants of the Thanos-snap. Luckily, Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) escapes the Quantum Realm to seek out Steve Rodgers (Chris Evans). Once Rodgers gives Lang an update on what has happened over the last five years, Lang has a realization that they could use the techniques of the Quantum Realm and time travel to retrieve the Infinity Stones to blip back the lost souls vanquished at the end of the last film.

Why is Avengers: Endgame better than the rest in the MCU?

So, what makes this MCU film stand out among the rest? The only way to answer that question is to understand the movie on an emotional level. This assessment also only works if the viewer has already seen all the MCU films, or at least most of them.

The nostalgic sentiment

When trying to salvage the infinity stones, the Avengers must split apart into different areas of space and time, as they come across different versions of themselves without interacting with them. That may not work so well for Captain America, but, nevertheless, it holds a warm place in fans hearts to know that people get to watch this movie while walking down memory lane with a heightened sense of knowledge and sensationalism.

Audiences get to re-experience the moments and characters of the MCU under a new light. Not only that, but the characters themselves get some much-needed closure from some of the relatives and loved ones. It’s almost too emotional for its dewy-eyed viewers.

The emotional weight

This brings us to our next reason why Endgame is the best. It’s emotionally resonant. Endgame has a sense of beauty behind all of the action and violence. At the center of the film, it really is a love story. Thor goes back to see his mother before she is murdered by the Dark Elves, Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) reconciles with his father, and Steve Rodgers reunites with his wife back in his original time.

What probably upset Marvel fans the most with a distressingly sad circumstance is the fact that Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson) sacrificed herself so that Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner) could acquire the Soul Stone. It almost becomes impossible to overcome the level of emotional anguish that it seems like a barrage of unfortunate events cascading against the viewer non-stop.

This film packs more emotional punches than most MCU films which, in turn, makes it the most unsettling, leaving fans teary-eyed. It especially leaves the viewer with a heavy heart knowing that Tony Stark’s Iron Man sacrificed himself to save all of the universe, which was a loss that even the other heroes were not ready for.

The stakes are higher than ever

These are the highest the stakes have ever been in the MCU. Most other films in the Marvel pantheon have had villains that usually get destroyed by the end of the film. However, when it comes to Thanos (Josh Brolin), wiping out half of the universe is the largest-scale motivation for any other baddie in the Marvel universe.

It makes the viewer sit on the edge of their seat knowing that if the remaining Avengers fail their quest to bring back the Thanos-snapped victims, it could mean the end of all that is good and just in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s nail-biting fun with a deep sense of dramatic euphoria.

The zenith of  superhero crossovers and action

What’s probably the most magnificent thing about this movie is the fact that it achieves crossovers with a plethora of superheroes that seems like a fever dream of any comic-book lover. While Spider-Man: No Way Home proved to have a cornucopia of nifty crossover characters, it was this particular film that brought a massive army of heroes that were able to get in on the action.

It brings most of the heroes seen thus far in the universe and brings a tear to fans’ eyes knowing that each character has been given their spotlight and recognition.
