It’s hard to believe it’s been nearly 20 years since the last Lord of the Rings movie opened in theaters with the release of The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King back in December 2003.

After years in development, we’re now only a short while away from the release of Amazon’s The Rings of Power which has been gaining traction with each new tease — including its Super Bowl spot which set the internet on fire.

While there is a chance we could see a new movie sometime in the future, Amazon’s The Rings of Power is a television series that will debut on Amazon Prime.
The new series will debut on Amazon Prime in September 2022 with the show’s first season set to consist of eight episodes. Even better, Amazon is already developing a second season of the series which has been designed as a prequel to the trilogy of films.
