Bel-Air premiered on Sunday, Feb. 13. Three episodes of the Peacock original series, which re-imagines the ’90s sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air into a drama, released on the streamer. The new take on Will’s story is one that may divide viewers as the classic tale keeps the lead’s humor but introduces quite a bit of darkness into the plot.
Spoilers ahead of Bel-Air episodes 3-4
Episode 3, “Yamacraw,” upped the ante on the continued tension between Will and Carlton. The cousins haven’t seen eye-to-eye since Will came onto the scene in Los Angeles but things escalated when Carlton’s friend Connor decided to plant drugs on Will.
The move was retaliation for Will disrupting the social hierarchy of Bel-Air academy, putting Connor firmly in his place when it comes to his use of the n-word, and knocking the kid out at a party he was hosting. Connor has been bitter ever since, but he’s also the kind of teen that prefers to be underhanded, sneaky, and excessive when it comes to confronting someone he has a problem with. Hence what he did.
Connor isn’t the only one who’s tired of Will. Carlton wouldn’t plant drugs on his own cousin, but he has been struggling with Will pulling so much focus. The end of “Yamacraw” was rather heartbreaking for him as he was taken out of his lacrosse game for unnecessary roughness and then watched his family celebrate Will’s basketball win when they were supposed to be spending at least half their time at his lacrosse game.
At least in terms of Carlton’s drug use, it seems like things are only going to get worse before they get better. Though his problems may take a backseat to his father’s based on the title of episode 4. Here’s what we know about the episode!
Bel-Air episode 4 release date
According to Decider, episode 4–“Canvass”–premieres Thursday, Feb. 17 at 2 a.m. PT/5 a.m. ET on Peacock. Judging by the title, this will be an Uncle Phil heavy episode. To canvass is to solicit votes or opinions which means the Banks’ have to be doing some work for Phil’s campaign to be LA’s district attorney.
Considering the friction between Will and Carlton, it’s possible that things could blow up even more between the two which wouldn’t be good for the Banks’ image. They are, after all, try to convince the general public that their family is nothing short of loving and supportive and that they move as one. Will and Carlton could get in the way of that if they don’t get it together soon.
Here’s hoping that they at least don’t come to blows in episode 4.
