As much as we didn’t want it to happen, we’d assumed the bad news at this point. There will be no Ordinary Joe Season 2 at NBC.
The last episode of Ordinary Joe aired back in January 2022. When we didn’t get some immediate news about the renewal, we’d kind of accepted the fate. However, NBC still had to confirm the news, and that’s what has just happened for the James Wolk series.
TVLine reports that Ordinary Joe is officially canceled after one season. There will be no Season 2, which means we’re left with all those questions about the three Joes.
Why is Ordinary Joe canceled?
The idea behind the series was definitely a fun one. It gave us a Sliding Doors style series with Wolk’s character, Joe, choosing three different paths on one fateful date.
In one, he chose to follow his passion for music, leading to him becoming a rock star. In the second, he chose family and followed the path to become a police officer. In the third, he chose love and followed Jenny, learning he would be a young father and opting to become a nurse to provide for his family.
Fans who tuned in enjoyed seeing how the characters came in and out of his life through the three different paths. Sadly, it just didn’t get the viewership that it needed to gain a second season.
The series averaged just 3.3 million viewers and a 0.5 demo rating in the Live+7 numbers. It was last in both metrics across all NBC shows. With that in mind, the cancellation was expected. The networks need to see strong live ratings. If they don’t, they need the strong delayed ratings via streaming platforms, but the live ratings are still important to NBC.
Ordinary Joe Season 1 is available to stream on Peacock.
