Outer Range, starring Josh Brolin, is streaming on Prime Video now. The eight episode series, which will release weekly on the streamer, follows the Abbott family. They’re salt-of-the-earth folks with a strong presence in their community, however, when tragedy strikes, they close ranks around each other.
It all starts with the mysterious disappearance of Rebecca Abbott. She’s left behind her distraught husband Perry and their daughter Amy, and there’s been no trace of what may have happened to her. The mystery surrounding Rebecca isn’t the only thing that the Abbotts have to deal with in the series.
A black void has appeared in one of their pastures, a rival family is trying to take their land, and a traveling woman staying on their property ould have a connection to the supernatural happenings turning their world upside down.
Outer Range is a Neo-western that’ll have audiences gripped well into May on Prime Video. Is it a series that can be watched with the kids? Here’s what we know!
Is Outer Range suitable for kids?
No, the show isn’t a family watch. Outer Range is rated TV-MA. That’s not surprising considering the unsettling premise of the series and the genre it fits into. Westerns, whether in the medium of television or film, have a special place in the hearts of audiences.
However, Outer Range isn’t like Gunsmoke or Bonanza. The series fits into the more rough and tumbling side of the genre with its strong language, alcohol use, mature themes, and even intense sequences given its ties to the supernatural genre. This Neo-western is suited to the tastes of adult viewers on the streamer.
