British comedian Catherine Tate is back with a brand-new show on Netflix. Hard Cell is a mockumentary that follows the actress as she plays multiple characters in prison. Throughout the season, the inmates work together to put on a musical in an attempt to change the reputation that women in jail have. The show is certainly not for everyone, but if you’ve loved the celeb since her sketch series The Catherine Tate Show, you might want to check it out.
Well, as Hard Cell premiered on Netflix on April 12, the reviews are in and it looks like viewers are loving the new show more than they expected! As Hello! Magazine highlights, many have taken to social media to share how surprised they were over the quality of the comedic series. And though the critic score has not been determined on Rotten Tomatoes, the audience score is an impressive 86%.
One person on Twitter shared their thoughts on the new show by saying: “Wow, did not expect any of that. Absolutely brilliant #HardCell.”
Despite the comedian’s popularity, it looks like viewers still weren’t expecting Hard Cell to be this good.
Tate has been applauded for the comedic writing, but also for the makeup and prosthetics she has to wear to portray different characters.
Is Hard Cell season 2 happening?
Hard Cell consists of six episodes which are all under 30 minutes. Considering how much fans are loving the show, it’s no surprise many are asking if there will be a second season. At the time of this writing, season 2 has not been confirmed, but Tate spoke about the possibility to the Radio Times. It looks like she’s open to making more, but isn’t thinking about it right now. She said:
“It would take a lot of knuckling down to do that. But I mean, I would obviously be delighted to do it. Of course I’d like to do another series, but I’m terribly proud of this one and it does have its own ending. I’m quite a big fan of things ending with loose ends. I think that’s sort of life, isn’t it? Life doesn’t tie itself up in a neat bow. And so I’d be delighted if it got another series, and I’m happy for it to stand alone.”
