Survivor 42 episode 9 blindsides the “puppet master”

Survivor 42 episode 9 proves once again that players should expect a blindside when they least expect it. The Survivor 42 cast continues this trend as another contestant is stunned to be sent home. In the latest episode of Survivor, we see a couple of dominant performances emerge. One player takes the reins regarding this week’s two challenges, while another player continues to shift votes with crafty social play.

Lindsay Dolashewich has proven herself capable in challenges, which we saw in last week’s episode where she finished second to Jonathan Young in a wild balancing water challenge. There was another balancing challenge this week where players had to stand on a sloped balance beam, while also balancing a ball on a curved platform. What’s even more challenging? If you last through each sectioned time limit, you move down to a narrower part of the balance beam.

I would probably last as long as the ball started moving one direction with the wind, so my hat’s off to the castaways. Lindsay outlasted Jonathan on the beam to win her first individual immunity challenge. She also won the reward challenge earlier in the episode, where she was able to stay overnight in a protected shelter from the miserable, cold and rainy weather. Plus, there’s nothing better than pizza and video messages from loved ones.

As a bonus, Lindsay was able to pick two players to go with her on the reward. She stated being “diplomatic” in her picks of Omar Zaheer and Mike Turner, since they hadn’t gone on rewards yet. Lindsay is the dominant force in this week’s challenges, but she also brought a different kind of strength with her on reward.

Survivor 42 episode 9 shows one puppet master ready to dethrone another

Both players were grateful to join Lindsay on reward, but Omar continues to build more and more trust with players the longer he stays in the game. Omar shares with Mike and Lindsay that Hai Giang isn’t as trustworthy as he pretends to be. Omar shares that Hai believes he has Mike in his back pocket and he’ll do whatever Hai wants.

Mike is clearly upset with this news, but there is a major problem with this development. It isn’t true! Omar is able to gain Mike’s trust, while steering him towards distrusting Hai. Will all of these “honest” tales come back to hurt Omar at some point or are we seeing an all-time incredible game right in front of our eyes? Much like last week when he shifted votes towards Rocksroy, he shifts people’s opinions towards Hai.

Although it wasn’t exactly clear if the vote would go towards Hai or Jonathan, it’s safe to say the person voted out took it exceedingly well. Survivor 42 episode 9 sent Hai home and he was as gracious as you can see in such a cutthroat game. Despite being blindsided, he appreciated the move and had nothing but pleasant things to say about his castmates on the way out.

Omar seems to have a connection with most players, and that’s not to sell Lindsay short on her social game either. She also appears to have good relationships with other players, while being able to win at challenges. Could we see both players make it to the final tribal council since they’ve been on the same tribe since the beginning? It does seem like their paths are currently aligned, but Omar has proven his crafty maneuvering can change things in a moment’s notice.

What did you think of Survivor 42 episode 9? Could Lindsay go on a challenge run to the final tribal council? Will Omar be the puppet master until the end? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
