We are more than ready to delve back into the world of Game of Thrones, especially after seeing the House of the Dragon teaser trailer. The wait isn’t over just yet, but it almost is.
We start this off with some bad news. The wait for House of the Dragon on HBO and HBO Max continues. The series wasn’t on the list of releases in June 2022.
Of course, we never expected it to be. That doesn’t mean we’re not disappointed that some sort of miracle hasn’t happened. However, we are excited because there’s a new teaser trailer and we have a premiere date for the series.
When is House of the Dragon coming to HBO and HBO Max?
The series will be on both HBO and HBO Max. It’s technically a HBO Original Series, but all HBO shows also head to HBO Max. It’s the HBO Max Originals that don’t go to HBO. You might as well get the slightly more expensive streaming platform for all the content.
Back to the Game of Thrones prequel spin-off. House of the Dragon will premiere on Sunday, Aug. 21. This is getting a weekly release just like all content on HBO. It’s not surprising. We have to remember that HBO is a premium cable network and not just a streaming platform. Plus, weekly releases have shown to have positive results for TV shows.
The teaser trailer for the series is out, giving us an idea of what to expect for those who haven’t ready the prequel novel. It follows the Targaryen dynasty 200 years before the first episode of Game of Thrones. King Viserys I has named his daughter, Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, as the heir, but his brother Prince Daemon isn’t happy about that.
There’s civil war between the Targaryen factions. Men would rather spill blood and destroy a country rather than let a woman rule. We know that a woman hadn’t sat on the Iron Throne until Queen Cersei in Game of Thrones, so we can tell how this should play out. However, is there something in the history books that has been rewritten by the eventual victors?
House of the Dragon premieres on HBO and HBO Max on Sunday, Aug. 21.
