The Black Adam trailer is finally here and it’s disappointing

Well, Warner Bros. might have hoped for better results by completely changing the plan for the DCEU, but it isn’t exactly working so far. There hasn’t been a DCEU movie that has been successful at the box office in last 2-3 years due to the pandemic and it doesn’t seem like they have a plan now anyway.

Black Adam is probably the biggest upcoming DCEU movie. It, of course, has a lot of hype on the internet because the character is popular. Casting Dwayne Johnson as Black Adam was controversial, but overall, people are still hyped.

Warner Bros. dropped the first trailer for Black Adam on June 8 and it isn’t quite what it was expected to be.

The Black Adam trailer leaves much to be desired

No doubt the trailer marks the debut of popular DC characters like Hawkman, Atom Smasher, Dr. Fate and, of course, Black Adam. Visually, the movie looks great. It feels like an epic fantasy experience, but the dialogue in the trailer don’t do justice to the characters or the visuals.

It feels like another case of Aquaman. Great visuals but mediocre writing, plot ,and bad unnecessary jokes. For instance there’s this line in the trailer–“I was a slave until I died, then I was reborn a god.” It sounds clichè.

But, all that isn’t that big of a problem. It’s the mixed tone that’s the issue. One moment the trailer is epic and serious and then there’s random unfunny dialogue. It’s not like the tone that MCU movies have, they are able to blend both serious moments and humor. This is clearly a movie made for DC with random, unfunny jokes that don’t need to be there. It’s not that DC can’t be funny but the jokes should at least be good.

The trailer ends with an unnecessary clip which is supposed to be funny. Black Adam catches a rocket which surprises Adrianna and her companion played by Mohammed Amer. There’s a whole clip there that is supposed to create hype for the movie but doesn’t.

Also, Johnson as Black Adam just looks like him dressed as Black Adam. Little pointy ears aren’t difficult to add. It’s bad casting, he literally has no accent at all and again his acting skills aren’t that great. From the trailer, the movie is trying to make Black Adam a cheesy superhero. He supposed to be an anti-hero and has been part of both the Justice League and the Justice Society of America in recent comics. Again, this character needed a more serious tone to fit the mythological aspects of the story

Admittedly, the trailer reveals some plot points and character details which are honestly good. We have to wait for more clips and trailers to actually judge but besides those few good moments, it’s disappointing so far.
