With Halloween quickly approaching, we all have holiday classics on our minds. Where are our favorite movies streaming for Halloween 2021? Are any of them making their way to television for the spookiest season of the year? For those of us on the lookout for It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, the answer is simple but it may complicate some households’ long standing traditions.
The Peanuts holiday special, which made its premiere in 1966, is not only a staple of Halloween, it’s one that families have been in love with for 55 years. The special is the kind that brings the whole family together to gather around the television to share in the classic tale’s humor.
As fans of It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown know, Linus spends his Halloween in a pumpkin patch waiting for what sounds like a spookified version of Santa Claus. As the other kids enjoy the festivities, he clings onto the hope that the Great Pumpkin will make his arrival, proving to everyone that he exists just like Linus says he does.
Of course, as is typical in Peanuts, things don’t quite go as hoped for and Linus finds himself waiting for hours much to the chagrin of Sally who’d chosen to wait with him. It’s a classic story that we’ve seen time and time again without the special losing its place in our hearts.

There’s been no word if this Peanuts Halloween special will be airing on television in 2021. Last year, when it was announced that Apple TV+ had the exclusive streaming rights to all of the Peanuts holiday specials, news broke that the specials wouldn’t be available to watch on television as they had been for five decades.
While the backlash over the deal eventually led to the Thanksgiving and Christmas specials airing on PBS, but it’s unclear if that will be the case again this year with the added bonus of It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown airing as well. If it doesn’t, then the only way to watch the Halloween special without buying it or renting it will be Apple TV+.
In 2020, non-subscribers to the platform were able to watch the specials for free during select dates over the holidays before they were once again placed behind a pay wall. However, Apple TV+ has yet to announce that they’ll be making the Peanuts specials available again in 2021.
