December brings a great mixture of content to BritBox. In the mood for a crime drama or a Christmas story? You’re covered with these top picks.
Nobody does Christmas TV like the British. There are always stories that bring out the festive time but also add something a little extra to it.
There are always Christmas specials to look out for, and 2021 is certainly not missing any of them. Then there are the supernatural stories that make you think of the likes of A Christmas Carol. Again, 2021 has plenty to keep you occupied.
The full list of content on BritBox in December 2021 is going to be overwhelming. We’ve narrowed it down to the top five picks, but we do have the full list of arrivals at the bottom as well.
5 shows to watch on BritBox in December 2021
This list is in release date order. It’s just impossible to compare the genres.
The Tower
Gemma Whelan has gone from Game of Thrones to this gritty and twisty crime drama. She plays DSI Sarah Collins, who finds herself on a mission to find a killer and a missing person. The killer is responsible for the deaths of a veteran cop and a teenage girl. However, the case is trickier when a rookie cop goes missing, and it doesn’t look like she’s been taken bu has run away.
Collins is joined by her team as they figure out what’s happened. However, they’re in a complex city and not everyone wants to help them on this mission for the truth.
All three episodes are available to stream from Dec. 1.
A Ghost Story for Christmas
If you love short stories and Christmas horror, you’ll want to turn your attention to A Ghost Story for Christmas. The stories are based on MR James’s short stories, adapted into individual episodes.
You can check out titles like A View from a Hill, Number 13, and The Treasure of Abbot Thomas. The longest of the lost is 55 minutes, and the shortest is just 30 minutes. There are 11 titles in total.
Watch all 11 episodes from Dec. 20.
Bedlam
You’ll have heard all about Bedlam in the UK. Well, this is a place haunted by ghosts of its violent past. At least, it is in this story, which sees the once asylum turned into apartment buildings.
Kate believes that anyone who believes in ghosts is a fool. When her adopted cousin with a history of mental illness, Jed, comes to stay at hers, she may be forced to change the way she thinks. There may be spirits lurking behind the walls that are more terrifying than anyone could ever imagine.
Watch the 12-episode series on Dec. 20.
Midwinter of the Spirit
Still in the mood for something Christmasy and supernatural? Midwinter of the Spirit is the series to check out. It follows Merrily Watkins who is offered the position of Exorcist in her local area. It takes her down a crime-filled path with a supernatural twist.
Merrily is called in to assist when a crucified body is found in the woods. However, she has to do more than help find a killer. She has to find the strength to find the evil that she uncovers during the case.
Watch the three-part series on Dec. 20.
Miranda
When you’re in the mood for comedy, British TV has you covered. There are some excellent holiday specials coming, but Miranda is the series you’ll want to tune into. Miranda Hart stars in this comedy as a bumbling fool who is desperate to fit in.
Miranda doesn’t have the wealth and arrogance her childhood friends do. She’s also never managed to flirt and has always been the tallest person in the class. Now she’s out in the world, but she doesn’t really know how to act around people.
