It’s the most wonderful time of the year, but that time is soon ending as Christmas Eve approaches. Or if you’re reading this on Christmas Eve, you’re just in time. Why not welcome the jolliest day of the year with some wonderful and happy Christmas movies?
Below, we share seven of the most jolly holiday movies you can watch on Christmas Eve. These are movies you can play in the background if you’re hosting a Christmas party, with the kids, or for the family to enjoy before the big day.
Earlier this month, we also shared the most popular movies in each state. While I knew some of the movies that would be on that list, some truly did surprise me. For example, who would have ever guessed The Nutcracker and the Four Realms is the most-searched for movie in Alaska?
From the list, the most popular movies there are Elf (the favorite movie in 10 states), The Polar Express (the favorite movie in nine states), and Home Alone (the favorite movie in six states).
Holiday and Christmas movies to watch on Christmas Eve
The movies I recommend here aren’t too different from the ones voted as the most popular movies in each state. After all, they are popular for a reason. We enjoy watching these every single time the holiday season rolls around.

Listen, Home Alone and Home Alone 2 are must-watch holiday movies every year. Watch them before Christmas Eve and then again on Christmas Eve. But, as I’m sure you know, don’t watch any other Home Alone movies.
The Grinch is also a holiday classic, and it goes without saying that Elf is a favorite. Finally, if you only have time for a few movies, The Polar Express needs to be on your list.
