South Park season 25 episode 6: South Park goes green for St. Patrick’s Day

It is St. Patrick’s Day in South Park, and Randy Marsh is gearing up to provide the green for the season with his new batch of St. Patrick’s Day Special. Here’s our review of South Park season 25 episode 6.

Randy’s competition with Steve Black’s Credigree Weed threatens to cut into his holiday profit margins. Meanwhile, Butters is arrested for sexual harassment for pinching girls who neglected to wear green for the occasion. What’s black and blue and green all over? It’s South Park‘s latest episode, “Credigree Weed St. Patrick’s Day Special”

South Park season 25 episode 6 review

Story wise, the writing is a solid A for me, as it finally delivers a bit on the business rivalry between Randy and Steve teased some episodes ago, and to funny avenues too. Randy accusing Steve of cultural appropriation for selling weed and being dressed as a leprechaun got a really good laugh out of me.

Then, you have Butters, once again playing the hapless victim, who gets arrested and labeled a sexual predator for upholding the holiday tradition of pinching non-green wearers. Of course, to Butters undoing, the girl he pinched was indeed wearing green socks. I thought this was funny, too, a silly twist on the current social trend of ingrained culture customs and traditions being more scrutinized in our times.

The story keeps its momentum by making its two lines meet. After brawling with Steve, Randy is jailed with Butters and the rest of South Park’s early St. Patrick’s Day celebrators. They escape when Randy unlocks the true power of green, and defeats the police force with the blessing of St. Patrick. In my head canon though, it was just hallucinations of the cops already tripping shamrocks from Tegridy Weed. Of course, that doesn’t explain how Randy was able to rip the cell door off its hinges…it’s a working theory.

There are a lot of small jokes here and there that I appreciate. I liked how all the students’ design changed to incorporate green, but Kyle stays the exact same since he has that classic green trapper hat. Cartman is repeatedly verbally unimpressed by the green applied to the food and clothing for just one day, another cute detail.

So, over all, a strong episode of South Park. Great jokes, good stories, an absurd end with the appearance of St. Patrick himself. What more could you ask for?

Oh yeah. When the hell am I getting more episodes?
