Tuesday nights are supposed to be all about the doctors of New Amsterdam Hospital on NBC. What’s going on with the schedule right now?
The bad news is there isn’t a new episode of New Amsterdam on tonight, Tuesday, Dec. 7. This won’t be that surprising to some, but it is disappointing news.
The worst part is that we don’t even get a rerun. Instead of airing a rerun of the current season, NBC is airing the People’s Choice Awards starting from 9/8c. Yes, that means there isn’t an episode of La Brea either.
There is going to be a wait for a new episode of the medical drama. There is a good reason for it, though.
Why isn’t New Amsterdam on tonight?
The episode a couple of weeks ago was the fall finale. It’s pretty standard for NBC to go on breaks in the middle of November. The network goes into the holiday programming to avoid a big dip to the live ratings this time of year. There’s no point in putting scripted shows at risk due to just a bad time of the year.
The break also allows the cast and crew to get some time off. They work solidly up to the holiday season to try to keep the episodes filmed ahead of those aired. The holiday season is a time for everyone to spend with their families as much as possible.
We do have some good news, though. There is a light at the end of the hiatus tunnel. New Amsterdam will return with all-new episodes starting on Tuesday, Jan. 4. We’ll get a chance to see Max and Helen in London starting their new life. Just what does that new life look like?
