You (yes, you!) should be watching Anime and here’s why

Anime has secured a spot in FanSided’s 2021 Fandom of the Year list and we couldn’t be any more thrilled to know that this fandom sits comfortably amongst the many other great fanbases that include but are certainly not limited to the Apex Legends fandom, the Marvel Cinematic Universe fandom, and the Squid Game fandom.

Naturally, we anime fans are well content with seeing our fandom on this year’s list, but, if you’re confused as to why this topic made the list or if you’re someone who wants to be a part of the fandom but needs some more convincing, you’ve certainly come to the right place because we want to tell you just why you should be watching anime.

Anime is becoming a global phenomenon!

Without a doubt, the majority of the people of this world know of an anime or two. This isn’t something that has happened by accident as, in recent years, anime has become quite a force to be reckoned with.

From breaking monumental records (Demon Slayer: Mugen Train became the highest-grossing animated film of all time in 2021 surpassing Studio Ghibli’s Spirited Away) to being the only thing on millions of entertainment fans’ minds (Twitter’s 2021 data found that 3 out of 10 anime series–Tokyo RevengersDemon Slayer, and Jujutsu Kaisenwere the most discussed TV topics on its platform), it’s nearly impossible to not admit that anime has become immensely popular and could be bound to give your favorite shows a run for their money.

Of course, it’s all nothing but love as being a fan isn’t a matter of boasting of awards or competition, but a matter of thoroughly enjoying the amazing art in front of you just like millions of others around the world.

So, why not get on this anime wave and meet some die-hard fans that may include a familiar name or two!

Your favorite celebrities are big anime fans, too!

In speaking of die-hard fans, there are more than a handful of star-studded celebrities that are also involved in the vast world of anime.

Black Panther actor Michael B. Jordan is a huge fan of the series Naruto. Grammy Award-Winning musician Megan Thee Stallion loves Black Clover and recently announced that she was watching Demon Slayer season 2. The late legendary actor Robin Williams was more of a sci-fi anime fan and had the titles Neon Genesis Evangelion, Ghost in the Shell, and the 1998 series Cowboy Bebop under his belt.

Even The Voice judge Ariana Grande got a tattoo of Spirited Away character Chihiro, believing that this character embodied courage and duty like none other. (Can’t argue with that!)

Kanye West also paid homage to his favorite anime film by incorporating Akira in his music video for “Stronger” and rock musician Avril Lavigne loves One Piece so much that she wrote two songs for the soundtrack of the 2012 film One Piece Film: Z. Thus, proving that tons of your beloved celebrities not only watch but draw inspiration from their personal favorites—bringing us to our third and final point.
