Is there a new episode of This Is Us tonight? (February 8)

This is Us fans are going to have to postpone their quality time with the Pearson family tonight, because the beloved NBC show won’t be on—instead, the network is covering the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing.

While this isn’t ideal for the loyal audiences that have grown accustomed to their Tuesday night ritual of watching This is Us, the show will return later this month at its regular day and time. On the bright side, this gives viewers the chance to recover from the emotional rollercoaster that is season 6 so far.

From Jack Pearson’s (Milo Ventimiglia) mother dying to the sounds of Rebecca Pearson (Mandy Moore) slapping her daughter Kate (Chrissy Metz) after an emotional confrontation—it’s been a wild ride. To no surprise, it looks like season 6 episode 6 will get even bumpier.

What is This Is Us season 6 episode 6 about?

It’s been a while, but it looks like another Beth (Susan Kelechi Watson) episode called “Our Little Island Girl: Part Two,” is coming up next. While the Pearsons have discussed her dance studio in passing discussion, it’s been a while since there’s been a solid update on her story. In previous seasons, Beth struggles to keep her dance studio going during the COVID-19 pandemic and is forced to close it down.

The episode will be the second part to season 3 episode 13, “Our Little Island Girl” that presents Beth’s origin story. Enjoying dance from a young age, Beth had to give up classes after her father died of lung cancer and her mother could no longer afford the lessons. However, dance remained a passion of hers and having her own studio became her dream. When her dreams are deferred as an adult, Beth attempts to return to a corporate job in urban planning, which ultimately doesn’t feel right for her.

Beth gets a new job at a dance academy, but it looks like new obstacles are already emerging during the episode 6 trailer when Beth says, “The fate of the whole program rests on me choosing the right dancers” in a voiceover. It would seem that the pressure is on for her to prove herself and keep the entire program alive.

She tells her husband (Sterling Brown), “I can’t fail at this again, Randall. I can’t.” He attempts to reassure her, but there’s a look of pure anxiety plastered on her face. With that said, during the flash forward in past episodes, viewers know that in some capacity, Beth is still working at a dance studio in the future.

Meanwhile, the trailer also presents some tension between Kevin (Justin Hartley) and Madison (Caitlin Thompson), as they both want to celebrate Thanksgiving with the twins—but in different cities. Kevin has already felt left out when it comes to seeing his children grow up, looks like that feeling isn’t going away anytime soon.

The show also looks like it will keep exploring Rebecca’s dating history during another flashback to what happened after Jack died. In the promo, it appears young adult Kevin may not have gotten the memo that his mom is dating again, which may mean yet another explosive argument with one of the Pearson kids.

This is Us will return Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2022 at 9 p.m. ET on NBC.
