It’s the show that combines The Bachelorette and Netflix’s Bridgerton. A dream come true for reality television fans, right? NBC’s The Courtship combines these two concepts together into one show.
Leading lady Nicole Rémy is looking for the perfect match. She hopes to find love with one of 16 suitors vying for her attention. The NBC original series filmed in England, dressed everyone up in regency-style fashion, and all their courtship outings are fit for the era.
From the start, plans for The Courtship went through some changes. The series was originally ordered by Peacock but then ended up premiering on the NBC channel on March 6 instead. Now, another move by the network is making audiences wonder if the show has been canceled.
Did NBC cancel The Courtship?
NBC did not cancel The Courtship. However, the show has now been moved to a different channel. In a surprising twist, the network decided to now air the rest of the season on USA Network instead, which is owned by NBCUniversal Television.
After just two episodes, NBC decided to make the move which is most likely due to its ratings. The Courtship hasn’t managed to even hit one million viewers. As Deadline reports, the premiere only had 0.92 million viewers. 0.59 people tuned in to the second episode.
The Courtship‘s premiere episode aired just yesterday on its new home, USA Network, at 11 p.m. Next Sunday, episodes two and three will be on screen followed by episode four on March 30, according to Deadline. The series will continue to stream on Peacock with episodes added to the streaming platform on Mondays.
It’s pretty surprising that the show isn’t doing very well. The Bachelorette definitely has many fans, and Bridgerton is one of the most-talked-about shows right now. The Courtship‘s concept is pretty smart, but something didn’t quite stick.
And though the show’s ratings aren’t great, it does feel like NBC decided to change where the series airs too quickly. Usually, networks give their shows some time (more than two episodes) to judge if they need to make any changes or adjustments. We don’t know all the factors that went into this decision, but at least the show hasn’t been canceled for fans out there who want to see how the rest of Rémy’s story will unfold!
