Survivor season 42 episode 3 power rankings

Survivor Season 42 has started hot out of the gate. We’d had someone medically evacuated in the first episode and the third episode had one of the most exciting tribal councils we’ve seen in a while. It’s hard to blame Jenny Kim for what happened in her boot. We’ll get to it below, but she really didn’t do anything wrong.

That said, this is kind of how Survivor always goes. You have someone looking like they’re playing a great game one week only for a crazy twist to mess it all up. It happened last season with Sydney Seagal and she was from the first or last. Let’s take a look at where our power rankings sit after that brain-busting tribal.

Survivor season 42 week 3 power rankings

Out) Jenny Kim (Last: 2) – Jenny did absolutely nothing wrong. Chanelle Howell made the questionable choice to risk her vote, which ruined everything, and then Daniel Strunk had an all-timer of an implosion at tribal council. We firmly believe she had a chance to go deep if things out of her control hadn’t hit this week.

14) Rocksroy Bailey (Last: 15) – Rocksroy didn’t do anything wrong this week, but we still don’t think he’s in a good spot. Now that his tribe has had time to settle, we’d be surprised if he wasn’t bottom of the totem pole given what we’ve seen thus far.

13) Mayanne Oketch (Last: 13) – We really didn’t like that Maryanne shared everything with her tribe. Now, she has almost no power and is out of the numbers. That could signify that she doesn’t think she’s out the majority, but that’s not something we’ve seen supported by the edit.

12) Chanelle Howell (Last: 7) – Some might think Chanelle should be rated higher than Daniel. After all, he’s the one that blew up the game at tribal council. However, Chanelle’s shown to have a questionable strategic mind and Daniel at least still has Lydia Meredith and Hai Giang on his side. That could change as we head into week four, but we can only go on what we’ve seen.

11) Mike Turner (Last: 14)  – Mike moves up slightly because we don’t think he’ll be targeted at the next vote. Chanelle and Daniel are much bigger targets. That said, he just lost his biggest ally, so he certainly isn’t sitting pretty.

10) Drea Wheeler (Last: 11) – Drea got almost no content this week, which means we still don’t know where the all-girls alliance sits on the Ika tribe. Until we see how that shakes out, it’s tough to move her around much.

9) Tori Meehan (Last: 10) – You can essentially copy-paste what we said about Drea here. Tori had a quiet week, which is probably a good thing given what we saw at Vati’s beach.

8) Daniel Strunk (Last: 1) – Okay, hear us out. Did Daniel blow up his game at tribal council? Absolutely. However, he did so in a way that gives him a potential out via an alliance with Hai and Lydia. Look, that duo isn’t going to Mike to make an alliance and Chanelle also turned on them with the vote. Daniel can spin this in a way that works for him in the short term. We also know he has a great strategic mind, which someone like Hai might want to use for future votes. We think Daniel has a few more episodes before his boot, though we’ve certainly been wrong before.

7) Lydia Meredith (Last: 12) – Lydia jumps to this spot almost in spite of everything she’s done in the game thus far. She’s sat out of most challenges and gotten almost zero camera time. That doesn’t read like a player who has a chance to win this game. That said, she does now get to essentially choose her majority alliance. Plus, she’s partnered with one of the strongest players in the game socially and strategically. It’s hard to see her missing the merge.

6) Swati Goel (Last: 9) – There isn’t much to say about Swati this week. She continues to quietly lay the groundwork for a solid alliance on Ika. She should easily make her way into the latter days of this game.

5) Lindsay Dolashewich (Last: 6) – Lindsay is another person who didn’t do much this week, but we still have her highly ranked because we know she’s in the majority on Taku. Her partnership with Jonathan is going to be a major factor in this season.

4) Romeo Escobar (Last: 3) – We’re dropping Romeo ever so slightly because he’s sat out of just about every challenge so far. That doesn’t mean much, but it could be used against him if Ika goes to tribal council. Obviously, we don’t think that’ll be the case, but there’s a chance.

3) Omar Zaheer (Last: 5) – Omar gets a bump because he’s the only person that we know who has all of the information about the advantages on the Taku tribe. That’s an important thing to have on your side as we creep toward the merge.

2) Hai Giang (Last: 8) – Hai played his hand beautifully. He recognized that Daniel, Mike, and Chanelle had zero power at that tribal council. There’s a 25% chance he goes, which is unquestionably a reasonable risk when you know you’d be down in numbers if Lydia goes home. Plus, Daniel weakly said he wouldn’t go to rocks, taking away his biggest bargaining chip out of the gate. Now, he’s, at worst, fighting to get Daniel on his side, but should easily have the majority on Vati going forward. It was an incredible week for Hai.

1) Jonathan Young (Last: 4) – Jonathan didn’t get to make a huge statement at tribal council, but he did show off his incredible challenge strength. The chances of his tribe voting him out prior to the merge are essentially zero because of that. Add in his current placement at the top of a great alliance, and you have a player who is going to be a force for the rest of the season.
