Percy Jackson and the Olympians will soon head into production. The Disney+ series is sure to enchant kids and adults once it hits the small screen.
This isn’t the first time Percy Jackson’s story has had a live-action adaptation. ’90s and ’00s kids alike may remember the film series starring Logan Lerman. They weren’t well received by critics or fans. Luckily, Hollywood is still in its reboot era and Percy’s story is being revived.
There’s been little news shared about the new live-action series, but we expect production on the project to start rolling soon and pick up quickly since an actor has been cast in the titular role.

No, the series doesn’t have a release date yet, however, we’re not likely to see it land until 2023.

Summer 2022. A specific date hasn’t been announced.
Is Percy Jackson and the Olympians based on a book?
Yes, the live-action show is based on the book series of the same name written by Rick Riordan.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians cast
Only one cast member for the series has been announced thus far and that’s Walker Scobell (The Adam Project) who who will play Percy! Riordan made the announcement on his website. The author shared that Scobell has chemistry read with candidates for the roles of Annabeth and Grover, so we should be hearing more about who has been cast to play those two leads soon.
Riordan will be heavily involved in the series and serves as a writer on the pilot episode along with Jon Steinberg. The author has criticized the previous adaptation of his work, stating:
Well, to you guys, it’s a couple hours’ entertainment. To me, it’s my life’s work going through a meat grinder when I pleaded with them not to do it. So yeah. But it’s fine. All fine. We’re gonna fix it soon.
Given his involvement in this new adaptation, we expect it’ll be true to his vision and that of fans the world over who adore the Percy Jackson books.

Geared towards a general audience and especially tweens, teens, and young adults, the live action series tells the fantastical story of a 12-year-old modern demigod, Percy Jackson, who’s just coming to terms with his newfound supernatural powers when the sky god Zeus accuses him of stealing his master lightning bolt. Now Percy must trek across America to find it and restore order to Olympus.
