The Ultimatum reunion: The 5 biggest moments (best and worst)

The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On was a mess of romance, bad decisions, and electric chemistry that spelled ruin for more than one relationship. Viewers went on the whirlwind ride with six couples in the beginning but ultimately witnessed four couples go through the ringer in the series.

Spoilers ahead of The Ultimatum season 1

Hunter proposed to Alexis after two weeks of trying to feel out which woman he might want to have a trial marriage with on the show. Their moment was undercut by Nate doing the exact same thing by asking Lauren to marry him despite the two not coming to an agreement about having kids together.

When we meet up with the four in the reunion special, Hunter and Alexis are in the throws of wedding planning. Their living situation had the typical bumps in the road but they’ve been happy exploring this new stage in their relationship.

While it wasn’t disclosed if Nate and Lauren are still engaged, they were clearly still in a relationship during the reunion special. They’ve been getting therapy for their relationship issues concerning children and have settled on having one child together.

The funniest, messiest, and most surprising moments in the reunion, however, involved the four couples that actually went through the entire experience. Here are the five biggest moments from the special!

The best and worst moments from The Ultimatum reunion special

The Ultimatum

Madlyn and Colby, The Ultimatum – Cr. Netflix

1. Madelyn and Colby are expecting a baby

When The Ultimatum started, most viewers likely didn’t expect Madelyn and Colby to end up engaged let alone married and with a child on the way but that’s exactly what happened. The two revealed that they’re expecting a girl during the reunion. They were even gifted a silver goblet sippy cup for their daughter by Vanessa and Nick Lachey.

2. Rae’s finding herself and has a girlfriend

To the audience’s surprise, Rae and Jake didn’t make a go of their relationship after all. The two instead tried once again with April and Zay but ultimately those romances didn’t work out either. Rae, however, isn’t single. She has a girlfriend that she clearly adores, so much so that Vanessa described her as glowing when speaking about their relationship.

Rae says she’s struggled with being bi for a very long time, so she’s been working on herself and exploring a relationship with the girl she likes. The experience on the show has led her to be more open about how she feels and to communicate better.

3. April and Rae’s side-by-side twerking videos

Of all the videos shown of the participants, April and Rae’s side-by-side twerking video was by far the funniest. During the show, April had reenacted the video she found on Jake’s phone of Rae twerking at the club. The audience hadn’t seen the video during the season but the reunion special delivered the footage with a side-by-side comparison of the two woman and their twerking skills.

4. Shanique and Randall broke off their engagement

When we left off with Shanique and Randall in the season finale, they were happily engaged and excited about their future together. Fast forward six months to the reunion and it’s revealed that the two split up after the show. They broke off their engagement, Shanique even went on a few dates in that time, but ultimately they decided to give their relationship another try.

Both of them said the time apart really showed them how important they are to each other, especially for Randall who’d lost three people close to him in that six month span and Shanique remained in his life through it all. It was sad to hear that they’d broken up and to see the hurt still there over that loss but perhaps this time things will work out for them.

5. Zay and Rae are still at odds

One of the most turbulent relationships on The Ultimatum didn’t get any better in the six months after the show. Zay and Rae still couldn’t hold a conversation about their relationship without it turning into a yelling match.

While Rae did apologize for shutting down on Zay the way she did in the show and acknowledged that he deserved better from her, Zay couldn’t admit how wrong he was about hiding the fact that he and Shanique hooked up on the show.

Rae revealed that she and Shanique had become friends. It was a relationship that Zay was uncomfortable with because he didn’t tell Rae that he had been intimate with Shanique. Instead of being honest, he tried to drive a wedge between the two women by starting fights with Rae whenever she wanted to talk or hang out with Shanique.

Even as the exes tried to hash it out on the reunion special, it went south fast. Rae wanted an apology, Zay tried to deflect, it became clear that Zay accused Rae of fooling around with Jake on the show (which she denied) but he couldn’t admit what he’d done with Shanique. When it became too much, Zay walked off. He eventually came back and said, “I’m sorry,” but whether or not that apology was truly accepted by Rae wasn’t obvious.
