This Is Us is quickly approaching its finish line with only a few episodes left before the show signs off the airwaves for good.
As we look ahead to the finale, all eyes have been on the looming death of the Pearson family matriarch with it expected that the show’s final episode will take place at the family cabin as the Pearsons say goodbye to Rebecca.
It’s a moment the show first hinted at seasons ago, so it’s understandable that fans have been slowly coming to terms that the end of Rebecca’s story will coincide with the end of the series. That flash-forward scene also hinted at how certain other characters’ stories might end, but there was at least one character who seemed to be missing in action during the future timeline: Rebecca’s second husband, Miguel.
While Miguel wasn’t the only member of the Pearson clan not featured in the future timeline, his absence was certainly glaring and we’re starting to get a bad feeling about why exactly Miguel was nowhere to be seen in the future.
Does Miguel die on This Is Us?
Although it has not yet been confirmed by NBC whether Miguel will indeed die in the final season of This Is Us, it’s looking highly likely that Miguel will die sometime before the series finale. In fact, it’s looking likely his death could come in the fifteenth episode of the show’s final season.
As revealed by NBC, episode 15 will be titled “Miguel” and will focus on Miguel over the years. While the episode title and synopsis might seem innocent, it seems interesting that This Is Us would finally look to spotlight Miguel during the final stretch of the series and after the series introduced a massive update about his health in the current timeline.
In episode 13, Randall discovered blood pressure medications belonging to Miguel and later noticed Miguel had developed a tremor. When Randall confronted Miguel about things, he went on the defense without ever really confirming the exact status of his health.
The writers wouldn’t have simply introduced that storyline if there wasn’t cause for some concern and the timing of the Miguel-centric episode has us quite worried it could be used to bring his story on the show to a close.
An episode looking back at Miguel over the years would allow the writers to finally fill in some of the holes in his story in an emotional episode that could see Miguel die in the present-day storyline, bringing his story full circle.
Should Miguel die in the episode, it would explain his absence in the future. It also seems only fitting to give Miguel his own proper send-off in the form of an episode that is dedicated entirely to his character.
This Is Us airs Tuesday nights at 9 p.m. ET/PT on NBC, and episodes are available to stream on Hulu the next day they air.
