Spy x Family is on a roll!
The brand-new anime series is climbing up the ranks on My Anime List’s esteemed top anime of all-time list, surpassing the likes of Hunter x Hunter, Steins; Gate, and Attack on Titan season 3 part 2. Currently, the 2022 anime is tied with the fourth season of the comedy series Gintama.

Spy x Family episode 2 opens with Loid Forger truly realizing that he is, indeed, going to have to find a suitable partner to be his fake wife for his mission, Operation Strix. He and his trusted partner, Franky, go through profiles of women in the area. However, he’s unable to find someone who will fit the role—at first.
On the other side, we are finally joined by Yor Briar, our undercover assassin whose dangerous private life isn’t anywhere near as flashy as her public life with her co-workers. We see Yor’s peers constantly tease her about being single at 27 years-old, poking fun at how she should try to put herself out there. To assist her (more like, to mess with her), her co-worker Camilla invites her to a party, only, she has to bring a partner as her plus one as a requirement.
Yor’s coworkers aren’t the only ones wondering where her boyfriend is. Her younger brother Yuri also questions her singleness. To avoid worrying Yuri, Yor fibs by saying she already has a boyfriend, a lie that she quickly realizes she’ll have to make believable to everyone, especially Yuri’s undercover detective Dominic. But, before she sets off to find herself a partner, she reminds us why she’s one of the best assassins there is.

Later in the episode, Loid and Yor meet by luck at a tailor. At first, they seem to not want to be too involved in the other’s life, but thanks to Anya’s adorable intercession, Loid and Yor strike up the nerve to ask each other to assist with their respective situations. Of course, they both enthusiastically agree to comply.
Prior to attending the party, Loid takes on a mission, leaving Yor unaccompanied for the party. There, Yor sits in a corner, contemplating why she’s going out of her way to impress everyone. Just as she’s about to leave, a bloodied Loid step in and mistakenly claims that he’s her husband, much to everyone’s surprise. Nonetheless, everyone believes the couple.
Loid and Yor run into danger shortly after taking their leave, prompting both of them to reveal just how skilled they are at their dangerous jobs. This match made in spy-assassin heaven doesn’t take long to pop the question to one another in an epic way. Loid, in all his charm, uses a grenade pin to propose to Yor to which she, as well as he, responds saying, “Until (my mission/my killing) do us part.”
