Friends and Seinfeld actor Mike Hagerty dead at 67

Sad news comes from Somebody Somewhere actress Bridget Everett this week, as it just came out that actor Mike Hagerty has passed away at the age of 67. The star was most recently starring in the HBO dramedy, but is best known for his roles in sitcoms like Friends, Seinfeld, and Curb Your Enthusiasm.

Hagerty’s cause of death is not known at this time, though it’s been confirmed by Deadline that he passed away on April 29, 2022. According to the report, he is survived by his wife Mary Kathryn, his sister Mary Ann, along with his sister’s wife and their daughter. Everett shared the news on Instagram, posting a headshot of Hagerty alongside a heartfelt caption. She writes in part:

“With great sadness, the family of Michael G. Hagerty announced his death yesterday in Los Angeles. A beloved character actor, his love of his hometown of Chicago and his family were the cornerstones of his life.”

Who did Mike Hagerty play in Friends?

Friends fans will remember Hagerty for playing the role of Mr. Treeger in five episodes. He was the superintendent for Rachel, Monica, Chandler, and Joey’s apartment building in New York City, usually appearing to clean up messes caused by the gang. In the season 4 episode  “The One With The Ballroom Dancing,” Rachel even gets in trouble with Mr. Treeger, which almost leads to her and Monica being kicked out of their apartment. The way they get out of it is sweet and hilarious, though, as Joey agrees to help Mr. Treeger with his dancing skills.

Mr. Treeger is one of the many incredible minor characters in Friends who brings comedic and memorable moments.

We’re thinking of Hagerty’s family and friends in this difficult time. May he rest in peace.
