The Bob’s Burgers Movie review: An undercooked burger that I want to send back

The fans of the Belchers can rejoice as The Bob’s Burgers Movie is coming to theaters this weekend. Is the movie worth checking out in theaters? We let you know below in our review, below.

Bob’s Burgers is on the verge of collapsing in more ways than one. The Belchers are unable to pay their business loan and a giant sinkhole in front of the store is keeping business away. So we go on the chase with the Belcher’s crew to save the restaurant.

You can’t handle the tooth.

Full disclosure: I am reviewing this based on the fact that I have never seen a single episode of Bob’s Burgers TV series. However, I liked the idea of checking it out based on how successful The Simpson’s movie was at creating a film for their core audience and making some new fans along the way.

After stumbling into the sinkhole, Louise finds a dead body in there. Calvin (The Belcher’s landlord) has been arrested for the murder of the carny. However, Louise doesn’t believe he did it and she believes that, if she can figure out who did, it will save the burger joint and the family.

The Bob’s Burgers Movie failed to make a new fan out of me

One of the more glaring holes in the film was the script’s unevenness. There are super strong moments, but they all come when we are on the chase with the kids attempting to solve the murder. Louise Belcher, the leader of the kids, was my favorite and had the most substantial arc of any of the characters within the movie. Sadly, when we were focused on the adult Belchers, the film lacked the proper focus to bring all the pieces together.

Another glaring issue with the movie was the run time. You can tell these writers create a 20 or so minute weekly show instead of a film because the final 45 minutes of this movie felt like an entire season’s worth of episodes. Once we solve the murder, the film goes down this path that never seems like it will end and it the overall film suffers for it.

I mentioned earlier that the writers of The Simpson movie did a great job of appeasing the fans and potentially reeling in the new ones. However, when I walked away from this film, it felt more like fan service to the fans of Bob’s Burgers and not trying to attract new viewers. They could’ve had their cake and eaten it too, but they lacked understanding of that.

Ultimately, I am sure Bob’s Burger fans will walk into this and walk away happy, but they didn’t make a new fan out of me and I have a feeling not many others will rush to binge the series when they get home.

The Bob’s Burgers Movie hits theaters on May 27, 2022.
