We’re going to be saying goodbye to Riverdale. The CW today announced the network’s Archie-verse series will end with Riverdale season 7.
The show was renewed back in March along with The Flash and All American. Recently the CW surprisingly cancelled Legends of Tomorrow, Legacies, and Dynasty. This was a real low blow to fans and a surprising move as the shows had steady viewership numbers. They brought in more viewers than Riverdale this season.
But still, Riverdale has been a popular show that has a big fanbase, so it’s not surprising the network wants to give it a proper send off. And for the sake of the fans, I’m happy the story will be able to end the way the creators have planned.
I’ll be honest I’m one fan who veered off the show and just stopped watching. It just feels like it’s been going on with no real story or substance. So it’s definitely a good time to finally close the door on this show and say goodbye.
The final season has also moved from the fall schedule and will air midseason. So how many episodes will the final season have?
Will Riverdale season 7 be a short season?
Though an episode count wasn’t confirmed, the CW’s chairman and CEO Mark Pedowitz said the last chapter probably won’t be shortened. It will most likely get a 19 to 22 episode count similar to prior seasons, according to Variety. The outlet also reports that Riverdale creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa is happy by this news.
Honestly, I hope as they flesh out the season and story the network or show decide to shorten the season. We definitely don’t need a 22-episode final season. The Riverdale story has already went on long enough and can give an appropriate conclusion with maybe a 13-episode count. After all that’s how long the first season was, and season 1 was the best out of all the others.
