FOX took things down to the wire when it came to some of the renewals and cancellations. What happened with The Resident? Is it renewed for Season 6?
It was very hard getting through the 2021–2022 season. Many networks left some big decisions until May, and they weren’t all good ones. FOX left decisions right down to the wire, with The Resident being one of those decisions.
Would we end up saying goodbye to one of the best medical dramas on TV? Was it time for FOX to bring it to an end? This is a show that is regularly on the bubble, after all.
Is The Resident cancelled?
FOX made a final decision on Monday, May 16. The decision came just hours before the Upfronts, so things really did come down to the wire this time.
There is some good news, though. The Resident is renewed for Season 6. With the way things ended with the fifth season finale, we’re happy about that. Now it’s time to see who Conrad will choose to be with: Billie or Cade?
The only reason the decision was so delayed was due to negotiations with the production studio. With how successful the medical drama has been on FOX on Tuesdays, it makes sense that the network would have wanted to renew the series earlier than it did.
What we don’t know is whether the series will be in the fall or not. With so many last-minute decisions, FOX hasn’t announced its full fall schedule just yet. That wasn’t too surprising when you consider the negotiations that needed to happen.
We certainly hope to see the series as part of the fall schedule. It would make sense to keep the popular medical drama on Tuesdays. We’ll just have to wait and see when FOX makes those final decisions. If it is part of the fall lineup, we’re expecting to see it return in September 2022.
