The streaming titan Hulu is gearing up to give subscribers a new series, Black Cake, and you won’t want to miss this one! Need all the details before you decide to tune in? That’s why we’re here for! Below, we share everything you need to know about Black Cake, including release date updates, the cast, and more.
As Deadline shares, getting the rights to stream Black Cake did not come easy for Hulu. Reportedly, there was a “bidding war” for it, but Hulu ended up winning and we can’t think of a better platform than Hulu for this series. Black Cake comes from Women of the Movement creator Marissa Jo Cerar, Oprah Winfrey’s Harpo Films, and Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment.
What is Black Cake on Hulu about?
The story is based on the book of the same name by Charmaine Wilkerson, which has not yet been released, but the source shares that audiences will become entangled in a murder mystery. And, honestly, that’s all I needed to know because I love a good murder mystery! Black Cake will center on Covey, a runaway bride who was last seen off the coast of Jamaica and feared dead. Fast forward 50 years and we meet Eleanor Bennett, a widow in her 60s who passes away from cancer.
Eleanor leaves her estranged children a flash drive detailing her never-before told stories that reveal family origins her kids never knew about.
Black Cake release date predictions
Hulu has not released (or even teased) a release date for Black Cake, but we do know that the book will be published first, so you’ll be able to learn more about it soon. The source shares that the book will be published sometime in 2022. That said, we believe the series could drop on Hulu in mid to late 2023. As soon as we have a release date, we’ll update this post!
