What is the Warner Bros. movie Elvis about?

Fans of the King of Rock and Roll get ready! Warner Bros. Pictures biographical musical drama, Elvis, is headed to theaters this month!

The massively popular 50s/60s singer and actor is considered to be one of the most significant cultural icons of the 20th century. The upcoming film is directed by Baz Luhrmann, who co-wrote the script with Sam Bromell, Craig Pearce, and Jeremy Doner.

Austin Butler takes on the titular role alongside actor Tom Hanks who plays Elvis’ manager, Colonel Tom Parker. The movie also stars Helen Thomson as Elvis’ mother Gladys Presley, and the star’s wife Priscilla Presley is played by actress Olivia DeJonge.

Overall, biographical films have been a success and what audiences gravitate towards. Just look at Bohemian Rhapsody and House of Gucci. I’m sure this new film about the icon will be just as popular among movie-goers! So what can we expect to see in the production?

What is the movie Elvis about?

The film chronicles the life and career of Elvis Presley, from his early days as a child to becoming the rock and roll legend and movie star we all know and love. The movie also focuses on his “complicated relationship” with his manager Colonel Tom Parker, according to a press release.

The story is told over a span of 20 years, highlighting Presley’s rise to fame, to his “unprecedented” stardom. This was during the time of an evolving cultural landscape. We will also meet his wife Priscilla, who he shared a daughter with.

Right now the biopic can only be seen on the big screen come June 24. But, the film company usually adds its theatrical releases to HBO Max around 45 days after their release. So if watching from the comfort of your home is your preference, there’s a high chance the movie will be released on the streaming service just a short while later!

Elvis will begin playing in theaters starting June 24, 2022.
