Sunday night has arrived which for American Idol fans means a night in with Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan.
Ever since the season opener, fans have been able to settle in on their couch on Sunday nights to enjoy fresh new episodes of TV’s longest running singing competition series.
Auditions have been unfolding for several weeks now as the judges have been making their way across the country in search of the next American Idol. We’re quickly nearing the arrival of Hollywood Week with only a few auditions remaining. Fans are eager to see what’s next, but will the journey continue tonight?
Is American Idol new tonight on ABC?
If you’re tuning into ABC at the moment, you’re likely seeing the Oscars are going to be airing across its primetime slots from 8-11 pm ET. As such, it might be safe to assume this means American Idol is not new tonight. After all, if the Oscars are on for three hours, surely that means there is no new episode of Idol, right? Wrong!
Although ABC is airing the Oscars tonight, there will still be a new episode of American Idol to enjoy this Sunday. It’ll just be airing at a different time than usual.
What time is America Idol on tonight?
Instead of airing in its normal time slot at 8/7c, this week’s new American Idol will be airing at a later time than usual. Due to ABC’s broadcast of the Oscars, tonight’s episode will be airing at a special time of 11:35/10:35c.

Tonight’s episode will only be an hour in length because of the special time slot, but those not planning on watching live might want to set their DVRs.
The Oscars are notorious for running long, which could then delay tonight’s episode so it couldn’t hurt to extend your DVR timer just in case.
