Friends fans are losing their mind over a recent rumor which hinted that Timothee Chalamet would be playing Joey in a Friends reboot.
In a viral post shared by a prominent Friends fan, it was reported that the Dune star had been tapped to play Joey Tribbiani in a Friends reboot. Although the post was quickly identified to be an April Fools’ Day joke, the rumor has since broken the internet and given Friends fans quite a lot to talk about.
Despite the internet’s love for Chalamet, the casting rumor was met with a wave of uproar from Friends fans who simply do not want to see a Friends reboot happen without the original cast involved.
“Don’t even think about it! Don’t ruin a piece of art by trying a reboot!? Come on,” commented one fan. “No way anyone can replace Joey or any of the characters,” added another.
While the general consensus among fans was that the only way a Friends reboot would ever work would be if the original cast was involved, there were some fans who appreciated the idea of Chalamet playing Joey in a reboot someday.
“I just got so excited,” wrote one fan reacting to the idea of Chalamet as Joey. Ironically, there is at least one member of the original Friends cast who agrees with those in the minority in believing Chalamet would be a perfect Joey.
Will Timothee Chalamet play Joey in a Friends reboot?
While Timothee Chalamet has not been cast as Joey in a Friends reboot, he is the top pick for at least one member of the original cast to play the role of Joey Tribbiani should a Friends reboot happen.
During a 2020 interview with comedian Kevin Nealon on his YouTube series Hiking with Kevin, Friends star Courteney Cox confessed that she thought Chalamet would be a perfect Joey.
“Timothee Chalamet can be Joey,” Cox told Nealon as the pair enjoyed a hike together during her appearance on the YouTube series, adding that “He’s so great.” The pair even agreed on how Chalamet favors Joey which would definitely help to sell his casting in a reboot.
Of course, it’s hard to know if a Friends reboot will ever happen but should NBC or Warner Bros choose to revisit the beloved franchise we’re sure Chalamet’s name will be on the shortlist to play Joey.
